The IPL bidding process is a dynamic and exciting event that takes place before each season of the Indian Premier League. The teams have a limited budget and must strategically bid for the players they want to add to their squad.
Here is a step-by-step guide to the IPL bidding process:
- Player pool: The player pool for the auction consists of all players who are released by their teams, as well as any new players who register for the auction.
- Team budget: Each team has a set budget to bid for players at the auction. The budget for the 2023 auction is Rs 100 crore.
- Bidding order: The teams are placed in a bidding order based on their performance in the previous season. The team with the worst record in the previous season bids first, and the team with the best record bids last.
- Bidding process: The auctioneer calls out the name of each player in the pool, and the teams can bid for the player by raising their paddle. The highest bidder wins the player.
- Tie-breaker: If two teams bid the same amount for a player, the team with the higher bidding order wins the player.
- Right to match (RTM): Each team has two RTM cards, which they can use to retain a player who has been bid for by another team. If a team uses their RTM card for a player, they must match the highest bid for that player.
- Auction ends: The auction ends when all of the players in the pool have been sold.
It is important to note that the IPL bidding process is a very complex and dynamic process. There are many factors that teams consider when bidding for players, such as the player’s form, experience, and versatility. The teams also need to be mindful of their budget and the composition of their squad.
